There's tracking and then there's tracking. I just reviewed the BS2000 manual. The trim pot provides info on the voltage difference between Voc (open circuit voltage) and Vmp (max power voltage). The factory setting is 4.4V. The trim pot can change this setting.
I'm guessing the BS2000 mppt search algorithm measures the open circuit voltage, subtracts 4.4V (or whatever trim pot says) and ASSUMES this is the maximum power voltage. This is a rudimentary search routine.
The manual notes that all panels need to have the same Vmp of this controller to operate effectively. That's due to the simple search routine.
