Morning Star - Pro Star MPPT 40

Our controller from Grape isn’t meeting our charging requirements.

Looking for other options.

Anyone have the above specific controller?

Is so, likes? Dislikes?

Current set up..
2 Grape Solar 24v 265w in series connected to 4 Trojan T105’s.

Thanks

Yes you are. Yes, it does appear to support up to 120v input.

That controller (specs I saw) is for 12 and 24v operation. You indicated a 48v solar array.
Not sure what your use of the pronoun "that" refers to, but the referenced Prostar supports up to 120V of panels. Grape has a few MPPT controllers, too, all of which support 100V or more.

That controller (specs I saw) is for 12 and 24v operation. My mistake.. that's the battery bank spec.
  • Grape products are in general okay. Rare for their controllers to go bad.
  • The Prostar MPPT40 works fine, and has a wide range of adjustability for charging. Also supports remote temperature sensing, which is uncommon on cheaper controllers. It's negative ground, which makes the load output useful on an RV.

I haven't had any trouble with mine.
  • Since the panels are 24 volts and the battery bank is 12 volts, the controller needs to be MPPT.

The wattage on the panels ought to be more than 245 watts and if the grape is PWM 1/2 the watts are being wasted.

245 watts in series with another 245 watts? 48 volts output?

Grape does now make an MPPT controller for $192.00. I know almost nothing about it.

    Morningstar has an excellent reputation.
  • The Controller from Grape doesn’t appear to have ability to charge our batteries properly.. .. 14.8/13.5 for the set duration.

Battery bank is 4 -6v batteries in series/ parallel for 440ah.
  • I have a MS-Tristar-MPPT-60 and I believe Morningstar is a brand as good as any of the best.
With programmable charge settings the Prostar-MPPT should serve you well.
