I'm mounting a 2000W Xantrex inverter in my Pleasureway Excel. By far the most practical place to put it is next to my 4 AGM batteries. That's where the transfer switch is and all the other wiring.
The inverter manual has several warnings against mounting the inverter in the same compartment as the batteries. I assume this is to avoid ignition of battery gasses.
In my case, there is no compartment - the batteries are in the living area, under the bed, and the area around the battery is open on the top. I want to mount my inverter directly next to the batteries. I believe this is safe because my AGM batteries are sealed and hence I don't expect any build-up of gasses, and even in the extreme case that the batteries vented for some reason, it doesn't seem like gas can accumulate much as the space is not enclosed.
Am I out to lunch here?
Nothing to worry about. As others have said, the warnings are for flooded cell batteries.
My Magnum 2800 and four AGM live in the cabin with me, they're built in under a dinette seat. I open the seat now and then to check torque on the various fasteners and the tension on the tie-down for the batteries. Two plus years now, no issues at all.
I cut some openings in the sides of the dinette seat, and covered them with hvac type floor grates, to increase air flow a bit. When the Magnum is working hard inverting or charging, it puts off a fair amount of heat.
