I chose a large inverter so I could use my trailer as I want, without having to mess with the generator.
For example traveling in the summer, time for lunch or a break? I can pull into a rest area, Walmart, etc, turn on the air conditioner, turn on the TV, microwave a pizza pocket or whatever and relax for a bit, without a generator droning away.
Need to air up tires? I can run my 10 amp AC powered air compressor from the outdoor outlet on the RV, again without having to mess with the generator... it cost a fraction of what a similar psi/cfm rated DC compressor cost.
I do like my generators, twin Yamaha 2000's, but they're noisy and stinky when running in eco mode. I do run them when I'm camped / boondocking for more than a few days.... at the end of 25ft or more of extension cord.
