I think this would be a crazy thing to try. This is one of situations when you really need a generator. Or - better yet, hookups.
We had no choice but the to make this trip at this time. We also had no choice but to drycamp at that time and place. Overall this trip was a fantastic (U.S.) adventure and we would not have wanted to compromise it by not having the right RV setup.
This is one of the many situations where we needed maximum RV self-containment capability so that our rig was potentially ready for "anything at any time". I guess we were blessed - as our RV came to us capable of this kind of flexibility through not a lot of effort on our part at purchase time. We have been able to get our maximum money's worth time and time again by not having to pick and choose when and where we go camping (in the U.S.).
I above twice mentioned "U.S.". Of course we have no where near an expedition RV. What we have and how we use it merely fits a lot of our U.S. camping situations at a lot of times and seasons of the year. For us a big solar array and/or a big battery bank and/or a big inverter is not necessary because we don't do much park-and-squat camping.
I admit that some portable solar and/or a fuel cell capability would be a nice self-containment addition to our mix ... however even then we would continue with on board generator capability powered by the same fuel source as the main engine.
