I believe they're talking about extensions between the ratchet head and the socket, not extension ("cheater") handles. An extension handle shouldn't affect the accuracy of a torque wrench provided it's applying the force similarly to the torque wrench as usual manual operation would and not otherwise interfering with the mechanism...and naturally a handle extension does increase your leverage.
A socket extension also shouldn't affect the torque enough to possibly care about, as others have mentioned, when using a hand torque wrench.
