Correct answer.
And definitely no myth.
However we are not building rockets to the International Space Station or guidance systems for cruise missiles. Now I haven't either, but I have seen copies of engineering drawings and spreadsheets on torque values on the subject.
Not calculating and applying the effect while working on RVs and TVs is negligible and inconsequential. In fact the variations couldn't even be measured on basic mechanics shop tools.
As with any subject, too many arm chair "experts" without knowledgeable experience in the field. :R
Please provide a link to your "engineering drawings and spreadsheets". Until then, the answer is still correct.
The only time it would not be correct is if the extension were still in the process of twisting before the pressure on the torque wrench were released. Basic principle that can be understood thru physics, statics, and/or dynamics. Not going to happen on a hand operated torque wrench.
