You're missing the point. Extensions act as torsion springs! The amount of force the spring gets energized must be subtracted from the force applied to the bolt being torqued. The skinnier or longer the extension, the greater the error.
I could not possibly fail to disagree with this you less.
And this is the myth I was referring to. Where is the spring energy dissipated. Does this defy the law of action and reaction? Somewhere in this logic a perpetual motion machine is in the works.
If you put 100 ft-lbs into that spring it's going to require 100 ft- lbs of resistance on the other end to relieve ths imbalance. It doesn't matter how much or how little the extension resists the torque it has to be compensated for on the the output side.
