You have PEX plumbing lines.........fancy plastic that does NOT collect calcium like an old metal pipe would.
I'm sure all the calcium and what-not came from other places besides my lines.

Plugging can occur at the faucets....remove aerator on faucet and clean them up.
The problem is; all the plugging is occurring at my tub faucet, and it doesn't have an aerator. It just has a push/pull plug thing that diverts the flow to the shower head. All the aerators on my other faucets are clear. No sign of any way to put a tool on the tub faucet, short of tearing out the wall of the shower.

Turn on water (on board pump) and flush water thru faucet then install the aerator.
I've been doing that. I've also used city water with a slightly higher pressure to do the same thing; run water through the cold side of the tub faucet. I caught the water in a small plastic tub, five gallons or so at a time, and a large amount of particles collected in each tub. diminishing each flush. Now I don't get much, and it's really clogged up. Hot side runs fine.
Obviously, I need to get whatever is right behind the tub faucet clear. I just don't see any access without serious damage to the TT. I was hoping someone knew a trick.

Cleaning of water heater is simple......remove drain plug, turn on water (on board pump) and let water flow into/out water heater, that will get the big stuff out. Then turn off pump and get a 'wand' from camping world etc. that connects to garden hose.....shove it in drain hole, turn on hose and blast away.
I was fully prepared to do all of that.

As for water softener.......
On-The-Go and FloPur are two of the portable styles. Basically the same units. So buy the one that is on sale
We have used the On-The-Go portable one for 6 yrs when ever we are in areas with hard water (CA, AZ, UT, NM, TX etc.)
Sure helps keep the scaling down on everything......faucets, toilet, shower, dishes, water heater--especially the electric element.
Get one!
Yeah, that's pretty much the conclusion I came to. A costly lesson that will not be soon forgotten.
