Need assistance please.

So I'm currently living in a 1991 Fleetwood flair and the A/C up front when I turn it on heat on with the fan the fan makes a really awful screeching sound and when I turn it on high it makes it even louder. I'm only 19 I don't really know anything about RVs and the assistance you provide I'd greatly appreciate! Thank you for your time. I didn't know exactly where to post this either

  • Are you talking about the fan in the overhead AC unit, or the fan in the propane heater??
  • 1. Climb up on the roof and remove the cover to the unit.
    2. Climb back down and turn on the unit to make the noise.
    3. Climb back up on the roof, and keeping hands away from moving parts, ascertain where noise is coming from.
    4. Possible causes: fan blades or other parts hitting something, mud daubers made nest on blades causing off balance, bearings on motor worn.
    5. After seeing what is causing problem, post on here for solutions if you cannot then fix it yourself.
  • You would have to go on the roof, remove the covers, and get brand, model, and serial numbers. Then locate supplier and order motor, and probably blower and housing. Then remove and replace all the above. On that age unit, probably be better to replace entire unit. Estimate cost at $900-$1200 for new, no idea on replacement parts, or enev if they are available.

But, what if I wanted to fix it like I currently do? What exactly would I need? As well the cost range? I'd really appreciate it thank you

If you are having to ask these questions you probably should call a mobile tech.

  • It would be easier and cheaper to buy a portable electric heater to use instead of the Air conditioner heat.
  • May you possibly be able to help me go about fixing it? Or would it need replaced
  • Sounds like your fan motor has a bad bearing.
A mobile tech could help you if you can't do it yourself.
