need replacement bedroom escape window

not sure if this is the right place for this but i just came back from a weekend on the road and noticed my bedroom window (the kind that is used to 'escape' with the top hinge and bottom openning out with the handle that is used to push and hold it open) is poof gone......left in it's place was a long shard of glass and the interior screen along with the outer frame.....not sure what i did to have this happpen but it's gone and i have to leave for another trip this coming weekend....the local camping world folks tell me that they MAY have a spare lying around or that i might have to go to a company they say makes most of the rv windows (HEHR??)....any input out there would be GREATLY appreciated....
tho this makes me SOUND like i'm a idiot.(ok......a little bit sometimes.....laffs).....i'm reasonably adept at fixing things and making things work.....so i'm open to just about any suggestions that are reasonable...especially if they are quick reasonably permanent and somewhat inexpensive....i'm not a rich man in cash ways......again.thanks in advance to ANY input

  • If a glass company cuts a piece of glass for you to replace your broken window, they must use safety glass. They need to know that is for an RV. Regular glass will not work with all of the movement. It might be possible to use Lexan to replace the window.

As to why this happened, you may of forgotten to close and lock the window before your departure and the wind along with speed may of ripped it off. This happens on skylight and vent covers if left open unless they have covers on them. JMO
  • Call a local CG near you and ask who they use as an RV mobile Repair.
Call the RV Mobile Repair Guy.

    1. He will be able to have one shipped to him in one day and/or can pick one up for you in one day.

    2. He will come out and install it right there in your driveway.

These guys have connections when it comes to acquiring parts and fast shipping. It IS their business. I have had extremely good luck using them for all my repairs on the road emergency wise and maintenance. And at a cost that is waaaaay less than any RV dealership or auto shop.

BTW: That fire escape window falling out is VERY common on RV's. I wouldn't doubt that the RV guy has a replacement one already in his truck! :W
  • I do like the idea of using Lexan (not Plexiglass -- Lexan is a lot stronger and can take the poundings of the road better) as a window. It won't break, so hopefully that isn't an issue if a real fire does happen.
  • all great sounding ideas y'all...thanks a bunch.....please feel free to keep commenting tho....never know who else might be helped out here....i'll post back when i have something new on this issue..right now i have baskets to make for this coming weekend..anyone in the richmond virginia area....my wife and i make wonderfully useful baskets.(fb us as sunrise baskets) and can use all the help we can get.....my wife says that all the time anyway.......laffs.....be well y'all...first day in shorts and a tank top......whoo hoo right?.....gary
  • did I misread the Original post as I thought this was the fire escape window. if you bolt it in don't smoke in bed.

  • waltsrvsurplus.com in fontana,ca has more windows than carter has pills & his prices are right. :)
  • How it happened:
It was not properly closed and handle locked in place. We had similar situation.
Going down the road window lifted out and pulled handle through slot. Fortunately observant driver in next lane called our attention to it. we were able to pull handle back through slot and relock window. Another few miles and we would have had same problem.
  • When mine flew away I had my dealer order the window from the manufacture and the cost was $125.00. Easy job replacing. This was approximately 4 years ago so the price may not be that low now.

    Good Luck
