New ATS

I am installing a new ATS in my 2001 Winnebago Adventurer 35U. It has a different wiring configuration than the original so the wires from the panel are not long enough. I was thinking either a junction box or putting a plug on the end from the panel and making a wire with a plug from the ATS. Any suggestions? Thanks
  • We bought one of those and it hummed all the time. I would look for one with a DC coil relay.
  • Making connections in J-Box
    Strip/twist wires together
    Wire nut the twisted wires
Electric tape the wire nuts......around wire nuts then up thru wires and back around wire nuts

Well my thought is to put an outlet on the end of the existing cable. and get a long pigtail and a Progressive Industries HW 50c or 30c (Depending on the RV) and wire it up in a "replaceable" mode so if you ever sell the RV you can get a 2nd pigtail (or get it now) and very quickly move the EMS to the new rig.
  • I would first make an attempt to pull new wire. Otherwise extend with a J-box, not a plug.
  • Thanks. The new is a Parallax 503 replacing the old 5070. First it is twice as big and for whatever reason they have chosen to have the terminals not in the order of where they come from (generator, Power and panel). I tend to agree with a junction box, just not sure of what kind of terminals to connect wires.
  • Not following the 'different wiring configuration' and wires not long enough??
    Smaller ATS, different location?

    Anyway.
