Perhaps try THESE 10W LEDS, at $11 for 4 they are a good deal and extremely bright.
I bought a set to mess with at the lower Warm temp and they are a bit too much on the yellow color side. I bought a set of finished lights for my tractor which I am using as flood lights while plowing and decided that having a couple of modules might come in handy if the LEDs in the lights die..
These are extremely bright, no regulator and are supposed to operate at 9-12V. I used a couple of diodes in series with the chip allowing the chip to have 11.2V across it and drawing about 7W.
Brightness is close to about 40W incadescent.
They DO require a heatsink for operation, do not run without some sort of heatsink...
