New Batch 10 watt LED's Arrive Back Spasms

Yep, they arrived. Made an adapter connector to connect a pair of plates to a 12.24 volt regulated power supply.

Eight of the twelve have one LED segment that does not light

Two of the twelve have more than one LED segment that does not light.

Two of the twelve have all 20 LED chips light up.

"Hmm, seem sorta dim. Rechecked voltage. 12.24."

"Checked watts. 2.6 watts each, whether 20 segments lit or 18"

Rechecked instrumentation. Verified OK. But substituted got same reading. Two point six WATTS for a device rated 10 watts.

Each plate is about as bright as a $2.99 Harbor Freight battery powered LED trouble light. You know, the blue ones.

So my chuckle grew into a laugh, then a belly laugh, then aw jeez, a cramp. I had to go lay down.

I came down to the store, got online, and read a "so sorry for tardy shipment" email apology from the Chinese vendor. They are sending another dozen free. I am going to be the regional baron of almost good white LED 12 volt lighting. God my side hurts! Oh yeah, the originals cost $2.99 ea free shipping.

These are the same clowns I had problems with awhile back I would not order nothing from them crapy products sent did not get what I did order. They are awful to deal with.

No idea what you got, I've ordered 2 times from them, they work fine in my application.... YMMV.
  • I'm guessing they meant 10-watt incandescent equivalent?

LEDs are fantastic heaters that also give out a little bit of light... ten watts of LEDs would need a big heat sink for a sealed air install, or a good sized one if natural convection is available.

Six watt lamp module that suffered catastrophic failure when the bond to the heatsink failed... even the units that still have their bond didn't fair so well during the 100 degree heat we had this summer. Back to the drawing board!

  • My experience with Chinese LEDs is that they don't pay much attention to polarity. An LED is a forward biased diode and if reverse biased it won't work.
