I've done the match battery voltage and increase trim pot slowly and just set the trim pot to 14.7 and then plug into the battery.
Does not take much to send the Meanwell to the maximum on the slow dial, pretty much goes right to 40+ amps at half a volt difference.
When setting to 14.7v and plugging in, right to 40.94 amps even if solar had battery at 13.9v. No soft start capability.
I've no idea if one or the other is easier on the unit or the battery.
With a 10 turn pot, it is not easy to just dial in 14.70v and mark it, so I usually dial in 14.81v then connect the 45a Powerpoles. Usually within 40 minutes battery voltage has hit 14.7v and amps started tapering at the ~35 minute mark.
