Almost sound like n thermostat.
Radiator may be four core but not as many fins or total cooling surface.
Have it put on a scope and check initial time and advance curve.
Pull a plug and see if it is burned up glazed and white.

How about the shrouding around fan?
Do the heads match the exhaust manifolds?
A fresh engine will not be very hot because of better sealing and clean passages etc after a few miles. The radiator should be capable of handling such minor extra loads without any sweat otherwise every time you pull a hill of it's a 100 degrees outside you would have to pull to the side.
