Hi, my motor home is a 1988, last year for carbureted 454s. The carb was rebuilt, and the jets were up sized from 70 to 74, if I remember correctly.
With regards to the timing, there is no brown wire to disconnect as I believe it was only on trucks/cars with TBI units. So, there is just a VACUUM line which has to be plugged during the timing set.
As for the water pump, I believe mine is correct. Reverse rotation pumps use the large NUT to mount to the water pump and not the 4 bolts.
I think I will re visit the T stat and work backwards to solve this issue. Summit racing might be a good place to start for a Max Flo/ high Flow water pump, I like that idea the best. I will check the existing water pump to see where the fan sits in the shroud....maybe I need a longer pump shaft/fan location. I just remembered that I still have the old water pump from the old engine....will measure today.
Thanx. Capt Ron. USAF
