His reported temperatures are consistent with our fan clutch failure problems on our 454. We saw even higher temps. I almost ruled out the fan clutch as a problem because the temps were so high and we saw those high temps while running on the highway - at a time I thought airflow through the radiator should have provided sufficient cooling without the fan. It didn't. Replacing the fan (more accurately: replacing the replacement bad fan with a good replacement fan) solved the problem instantly. I had begun to suspect the temp gauge also - after replacing the radiator twice and the fan/clutch once.
