I wish they would publish the "engage" temperature of these clutches before you buy them. Most engage somewhere between 150 and 195 degrees ambient temperature. This of course is a combination of ambient and the water temperature.
I have recalibrated a few of these before by rebending/relaxing the spiral spring to my liking. However a major pain removing, reinstalling, adjusting again etc. I did find however that I could get them to engage at about 210 degree water temp instead of 230+ degree factory setting by rebending the spring in a few.
Also I have read that the manufactures calibrate these things on the high side to avoid customer complaints of "noisy fan" "roaring fan" too much. I guess they can't win here.
Hense, publish the specs and let us guys who care choose.
