I have recalibrated a few of these before by rebending/relaxing the spiral spring to my liking.
How did you do this? Can you give some guidance? Just some additional bends in the spiral? Or did you wind the spiral another twist - or what? Thanks!
It's been a while but as I remember the spiral spring outer end is into a notch that holds it in position. By lifting it out of its holder you can rotate it counterclockwise which opens the internal valveing causing it to engage. I staitened and rebent the corner there to relax the tension on the spring when into it's holder.
The spring relaxes as it heats up thus causing it to engage. It had a fair amount of tension on it at normal room temperature as found. So I adjusted it to have just a small amount tension in its slot.
Turned out to be about right at about 210 degrees. It involves a bit of luck I'm sure.
Some of these clutches just have an expandable flat strip on them instead of a spring. Those kind--you are on your own there.
Were you able to bend the spring on the engine or did you have to remove the fan clutch to bend the spring? When I cleaned and looked at mine there was only about an 1/8 of a in or less in the tab area.
