I powered up the tool manually with 7.2 volts. Sucker 'bout took my hand off. Snapped a # 8 USA drywall screw in a scrap of hickory anchored in my bench vise. Have to dial the clutch back. I'm "might" go with lithium and take my chances with imbalance. I have my bench power supply to noodge the last bit of charge every few weeks or so. But, if NiMH fits then that will be a strong temptation.
The DeWalt SMART charger guesses when the batteries are full.
Now, to do the Peking, fire-drill with different size batteries to see how many of what size I can jam into the plastic cup, and end up with 7.2 volts.
Anyone who is convinced quality does not drop when product manufacture shifts to China may need to look again to be sure. No way in hell is the current DeWalt cordless screwdriver this good...
