No hot water

I have been getting luke warm water at best recently and now am getting none. I have tried the electric and the gas and now the gas will not even work. Any ideas?
  • Can you hear the water heater burner while on gas? Check they bypass valves to make sure they are in the correct position and make sure the air is purged from the tank using the pressure relief valve. if you have an outside shower, make sure it's fully off at the valves and not just the head button.
  • Do you get any water flow thru faucet hot side?

No Flow......check valve in water heater hot out (top line) has failed.

Yes flow but is warm then goes cold....bypass valve on water heater is open (cold water flowing to hot water line)

Yes flow but it is cold and bypass valve is closed.......electric/propane not turning on heating water.
Do you have a RED light ON----part of On/Off switch?

    RED Light is 'Fault' Indication
    Could be thermalfuse blown
    Could be bad t-stats
    Could be blown DC fuse
    Could be bad circuit board

    Without more/better info just guessing.

    Brand/Model of water heater?
    Water flows/doesn't flow?
    Details...........

Or it could be as simple as your outside shower is on but yourshowerhead is turnedoff:hIf it is a attwood heater it could be in lockout mode unplug the black box wait a minute plug it back in and try it
  • I am getting flow but it is cold.
    No red light

Sorry, I know nothing about the water heater and there is no service agent around this area that can check it out.
Camper is set up in Centre, Ala.

Flow but it is cold........look at valving on backside of water heater.
Cold water inlet (bottom) valve should be OPEN
Bypass (connects cold line with hot line) should be CLOSED
Hot water outlet (top) if it has a valve it should be OPEN (some just have a built in check valve)

Electric heat element is turned on via Switch in outside compartment...lower left corner. Make sure water is in WH Tank before turning ON or element with burn out.
Electric heat element is powered by 120V AC circuit breaker inside MAIN Power Panel. Check for tripped Circuit Breaker
T-stat may need RESET......in outside compartment is rubber cover top left area. Has 'Push to Reset' buttons. Push them BOTH (Left one is for electric and right one is for propane

Propane uses DC power. Feed from a 'fuse' in DC portion of Main Power Panel
    Could be blown fuse

IF Reset doesn't work, if no blown DC Fuse, if no tripped AC circuit breaker and you are NOT handy CALL a Mobile RV Tech.
  • Definitely the first thing to check is your outside shower, if you have one, as newman mentioned. Happened to us last week - the head was turned off but the faucets were still open.
  • I think I would change the anode. They are cheap and can be purchased at Home Depot/Lowes. Easy job - only real problem is making sure you have a wrench to take out anode. Search YouTube as I am sure there are repair videos available.
