I found a 20 Ah laptop battery charger on Amazon, which pretty much does what I want except allow for the USB ports to be in one location while the battery is mounted somewhere else out of the way. This would allow an iPad to charge about 9-10 hours, and most smartphones would be able to go 35-40 hours.
As stated above, might as well not overengineer things. Just tack that using some Velcro on a shelf (so it doesn't move around), and go from there.
