Noisy banging range hood exterior vent flap fix??

I'm in the RGV so wind is a daily issue. The flap bangs and the noise disturbs us.

My previous RV had an exterior flap that I could latch closed from inside the RV. This RV has a plastic flap with two little tabs to hold it closed. They are effective but even though I'm tall I can't reach them without 2 steps of a ladder against the outside of the rig. It's a pain to constantly close and open it.

I've been thinking of putting a weight on the flap to dampen its movement or maybe weatherstrip to stop had plastic banging on hard plastic.

Anybody have this problem and come up with a solution? No, earplugs don't help.

BTW, this vent is also for the microwave which is over the range so there is no easy access to it from inside.

So you glued the washer to one side, and the magnet to the other? This sounds like a nice permanent solution. I assume that the fan over powers the magnet?

    Good stuff right there!

It occurs to me that you could wedge a rubber ball or something similar in there too. The awning wand could come in handy for that too.

This, or a rag. Just don't forget you left it in there.
  • Joe, we have not had a problem with wind, except one time, when the vent opening was pointed right into the wind. We put a piece of plastic temporarily over the inside of the vent hood -- problem solved.

Too much wind would come in.

  • I like the suggestion using 1/4 turn latches, but like I said, I don't have access from inside:
