Noisy water pump

I used to have a 1970's vintage travel trailer. After I took care of the banging tubes, its water pump ran smoothly, quietly, and unobtrusively. Now I have a 2003 trailer, and the water pump in it is making an outrageous racket that I just can't get rid of, and vibrations that can be felt even in the bathroom. Grabbing hold of the tubes near the pump makes no difference. The noise seems to be coming from the pump itself. Is this a sign of something wrong with the pump?

And this has what to do with the OP's question about noise?
The OP never mentioned a leak.

Yes! A very small leak alters the pressure in the system and causes the diaphragm to vibrate ....I discovers this when one day I noticed my pump became noisy but all my pads and straps where still in place, after correcting the leak the excess noise stopped...
  • The best thing to do is be sure noise is isolated from the structure and plumbing system. Some sort of padding between the pump and floor will help such as a mouse pad used for a computer. Isolate the pump from the hard Pex tubing by installing flexible soft nylon reinforced lines on the input and output fittings of the pump. ShurFlo makes a kit for this.

  • Has it always been noisy? Might be the pump quality. My son has an '06 trailer with a very quiet pump; I have a 2010 Phoenix Cruiser with an obnoxiously loud pump. Its a low priority, but I'm going to shop for a better quality pump and replace it even though it pumps just fine and doesn't leak.
