Yes, there are two fans on the 1200 series and they are usually mounted 2/3rds of the way up. You should be able to hear them from outside with the vent cover off on a hot day. Even using a mirror they are hard to see above the coils.
If you have to remove the refer and replace your fans and Tstat, run a pair of wires from it to a switch so you can manually turn on the fans.
A $10 computer fan like this helps. I had to cut out the plywood baffle to make room.
