Norcold fridge hard to light

I have a 2007 Arctic Fox with the Norcold fridge. When it has sat for long periods of time without using the unit, it takes about 6 to 10 attempts to light the fridge. I can hear the spark ticking but takes forever to light. It seems like the gas is not flowing to the igniter right away.
Any solution?

    Homefor2,

Your furnace and generator(if you have one)are the last two appliances on the line. (unless they have changed the plumbing).

I usually fire up the furnace to prime the line. Because it uses larger amounts of gas, it will usually fire up on the first or second try. The frig fires up immediately.

If you have the quick disconnect fitting, you can plug it into the outside appliance connection to purge the line in a few seconds. That keeps from grinding the generator starter to purge.

What makes you think the Genset and the furnace are "last" in line? If the LP Genset is in front and the LP tanks are in front, the LP Genset is direct to the tanks and not "Last". The LP appliances are connected to where they are mounted. There is NO standard to have any appliance ahead of any other. LP gas pressure is the same thru out the RV, so NO appliance needs to be in a certain place. On a Trailer(Most) the LP tanks are in front, the Refer can be at the rear of the RV and if the LP in the system has been lost, then the refer will take 4 or more tries to light to bleed the loss of LP in the line. • I don't have a propane generator but I will try the furnace as it fires up right away.

  • Stove top burners are are good method........they can be visually seen working and they are large enough to place a demand on system.

That way the propane flow is established and a demand is placed on LP regulator.

Remember........LP system operates on LESS than 1/2 PSI (0.4#)
  • My fridge is the furthest from the gas supply but I'll try the stove trick.
  • If this happens all the time, then the odds are you have a LP leak in the system. UNLESS, after shutting down you turn off the LP tank and forget to shut down any LP appliance that is on. The LP system should never leak all the LP in the lines when you turn the LP tank OFF and you have no LP appliance left on. Doug

Yep. My Born Free had a Norcold and this is what worked after a period of non-use.
  • I turn on the farthest gas appliance from the gas supply and light it first it will take a little time for the gas to reach it. After it lights everything else will light easily. My stove is next to last, the fridg. is last so I light the stove first and then I can light the fridg. easily.
