Norcold Fridge Issue

I have a 99 King of the Road 5th wheel. l have a problem with my Norcold, Model 982 refrigerator, especially when it is hot/humid outside. It requires frequent de-frosting. The door seal does not appear to be the problem but I suspect it is. I emailed the manufacturer and informed I would need to replace the door. It appears to me the seals would drop out by removing four screws. Anyone else have a similar issue?

Thanks

When I was having this problem I removed the black plastic latch and removed about 3/32 ins from the back of the latch. This made the door close tighter and the seal to seal better.
  • Lots of good suggestions.

I have tried the dollar bill test. Problem is if the leak is very narrow, it won't be revealed by doing this.

Anyone else tried using aftermarket fans?

    Thanks for the responses.

I wonder why Tetford would not provide me with replacement part information?
  • Check the gasket by closing the door on a dollar bill, there should be resistance when pulling the bill out. Go around the door repeating this. Are you sure the fridge is cycling properly? If it turns off occasionally the ice can melt off the fins. Also, is the thermistor properly positioned and working?
  • Frequent frosting is a sure sign of warm air leaking into fridge.

You can attempt to reset door gaskets by sticking a some cotton balls in the 4 corners (under gasket) and then warming the seal with a hair dryer. When the complete seal is warm.remove cotton balls and close door letting it cool in place.
Sometimes it works just depends on age/condition of seal
