Norcold vs Dometic refrigerator

I'll try to be more accurate. The 6 cf Dometic in my last trailer did not has a control for adjusting the temperature, except for the slider on the fin inside the fridge.

The 8 cf Norcold that's in my current trailer has a control that goes from 1 to 5 to adjust the fridge temperature.

Norcold may have auto-temp models, but I'd never buy an RV with an auto-temp propane refrigerator in it.

FWIW, our rig's propane/120V Norcold unit has manually adjusted temperature settings using it's 5 position slider switch right there on the front. We only occassionally have used position 4 in extremely hot weather. We've never needed position 5 ... so far it has had plenty of cooling capacity in all outside temperature conditions. For our camping style, a residential refrigerator would not work at all.

I prefer the Norcold in my current trailer over the Dometic in my last trailer simply because the Norcold has 5 distinct temperature settings on the outside of the fridge.

NONSENSE. Fires were very few and ONLY on the 1200 OLDER(15 years and more) Norcolds. Dometic and Norcold are really your only choice for a RV refer. BOTH are good products. Finally, a voice of reason. The number of Norcold 1200 fires compared to the number of units out there in use is tiny, and even smaller if you add in Norcold's other models. The Norcold in my rig (841 model) works significantly better than the Dometics I had in my previous 2 rigs.

Never had a Norcold anything so I don't know anything about them. I've had numerous Dometic refrigerators over the years and can truly say they I am not happy with the way they operate. They have a tendency to not handle high ambient temperatures well at all and frequently will allow the inside temperatures to rise to the high 40s or low 50s degree Fahrenheit. This is a very dangerous area for holding potentially hazardous food. As badly as these refrigerators function, the customer support from Dometic is much worse. Actually almost nonexistent. When you do actually get ahold of a company rep on the phone they tend to be rude and very condescending.

Our 19 yr old 4 dr Norcold still works just fine, keeps thing cold, freezer frozen. We have owned this for 9 years and have replaced a circuit board, thermistor and eyebrow control. Will keep it as long as it works.

Had a Norcold in my previous RV, never had an issue. Have a Dometic now and no issue with that either other than it takes too long to get cold and it's prone to temperature rise on hot days.

I'm pulling it this spring and putting in a Waeco compressor fridge in it's place and selling ammonia fridge on Craigslist or Flea bay. I'm done with them.

Amish fridges are just like their namesake. Slow and lazy.
