Not really a toy hauler but I have questions

Mods feel free to move if I'm in the wrong section. I have a Thule 4 place drive on/off atv trailer with 7" X 1 1/4" electric brakes. I have had issues with the brakes not working. I pulled the drums today and found two wheels with bad seals and grease all over and the other two with frozen adjusters. So I will be ordering new brakes for this complete minus the drums. I have new seals on hand. Who do you think would have the best prices on this? I have found Dexter, just like Dexter and so on everyone claims to sell the best. I also replaced the battery for the breakaway system and when I pull the pin nothing activates but when the brakes are activated from my truck you can hear the hum its just everything is shot so the wheels keep turning. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

The pin when pulled closes the path (a wire to the positive post of the 12v battery in the trailer--that wire must not be fused BTW) which then powers the trailer brakes at full power. It is independent of the 7-pin braking system.

So you still have that breakaway positive path open after you pull the pin. You can by- pass the pull pin switch to see if the switch is at fault. Easy to replace the switch if need to. If not that, then trace the wires for a break.

If you don't do your own brake work, it can be cheaper to buy both halves of the system for each wheel since they come already greased, so you save on the cost of the grease job that can pay for the other half. Plus you get all new parts and can then know when it was all done right the last time for your future scheduling.

Buying used, you have no way to know when it was last all done right.
  • I'm going to move this thread over to Tech Issues from Toy Haulers, hopefully you will get some advice on your issues.
