- 3_tonsExplorer IIIThanks Pianotuna,
I appreciate your detailed narrative, though mine is a Coleman mach 1 P.S.11k btu (1160 run watts), and ProSine 2.0,your info kinda gives me a helpful performance curve...The ProSine 2.0 (a former Trace design) surge is a phenomenal 4500 for a whopping 5 sec, so even without an autoformer it seems to handle the load without a hitch, though I later added a easystart...Unfortunately the newer Xantrex replacement-equivalent model surge rating (and surge time) is not nearly as robust, and parts are no longer available for mine, so I worry about when the day comes when the ProSine eventually bites the dust...
3 tons - pianotunaNomad IIItime2roll and 2oldman,
I agree 1000%.
My recommendation is to jump to 48 volts for the battery bank, and Victron for the inverter. I think there are a couple of other inverter makers, such as Outback that I'd pick.
The only thing I have not tried is to use the autoformer with the Magnum. - 2oldmanExplorer IIYou're better off running air with a higher input voltage inverter. At 12v it's just so much amperage that things will start to heat up.
- Magnum sounds weak :(
- pianotunaNomad III3 tons,
It is a Dometic 13500 and draws between 1200 and 1900 watts. It is equipped with a Microair Easy Start. The overload indicator, pre microair, would stay on for about 2 seconds. Post microair that became two flashes--each one a bit less than a second.
The overload light does not come on when I use the 1591 watt microwave, nor any of the other "high load" devices.
Pre microair the surge was enough to cause my autoformer to boost voltage before the fan and compressor had finished spinning up. Post microair that no longer happened.
I've reset the autoformer voltage trigger to boost sooner (i.e. at a higher voltage)--but have not had a chance to test whether this will help with start up. - 3_tonsExplorer III

3 tons,
I can run my roof air on the Magnum 3012. However, Magnum does NOT recommend doing so. It does cause the red over load light on the remote to come on for a time.
Thanks, just curious, how large is your AC unit?? - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerMe too. Separate.
The Trace is landlocked. No more RV usage. I never fitted the Kubota, and I yanked the inverter. I have Essex DPDT 50 amp relays in the segregated kitchen, not in the gen shed. The inverter relays are an absolute guarantee the old lady cannot see utility power unless I wish it. It's an on/off for 120vac. Inverter output is direct straight shot to the refrigerator freezers. I rarely use the Inverter for charging the 2V Cells. I have a 400 amp ferroresonant charger for that. I also float with the ferroresonant. I have replaced $250 capacitors three times in 25 years. - pianotunaNomad III3 tons,

How is that working for a typical 50 amp RV?
The 3,000 watt unit advertises transfer switches beefier than those on the
magnum or Xantrex. The high power Outback seems to use the same DPDT relays as the Samlex dual 40 amp units. I have switched to 70 amp mercury filled relays on my Trace the originals gave up decades ago.
This all-in-one system is not my style. I like separate components.- 3_tonsExplorer IIIHas anyone tried to run a RV air conditioner from one??...Just curious about real-world surge ratings...
