Bearing metallurgy design is one specialized science. It is not for garage nerds with propeller beanie caps.
Bearings, races, and cages, are not made out of recycled dog food cans. The three components of a ball or roller bearing MUST be engineered to be compatible with one another. Even thermal expansion is critical. Any part that TOUCHES a rotating bearing part must be made of compatible steel. An inner race to spindle fit does not rotate unless an Owie is in process.
You can get away with murder with a bushing but a bearing is a different colored horsee. I was forced to take a crash course in bearings because I was a rebuilder. Bearing design is a deep and rigid discipline.
