The flue has been particularly bad this year in many countries around the world. A summary of current flue activity from the WHO including a map is here. The worst hit countries are Europe, N. Africa & Asia. If you want to avoid the flue, move to Russia, Chile, South Africa or Australia.
Haven't had the flu for about 20 years, but I sure have it right now. Had a flue shot but did not help for this current strain making the rounds. DW just got over it and many at her work have been afflicted. Didn't even have to go out amongst the general public at large and touch door knobs to get it... :M Extra strength Tylenol cold tablets are really helping for sleep - haven't slept this well for a very long time. Can't notice the flue symptoms at all when I'm zonked right out.
When I was a young kid my dad used to say there were too many humans on the planet and we needed a good plague to thin them out. Used to freak me out when he said that because he didn't even crack a smile. :E

Okay, so here's what I'm thinking - why is this thread in the Tech Issues forum?
australia is in the middle of summer. they are over the flu season, but they did get hit pretty hard during the winter and that was a heads up that it was going to be bad in the northern hemisphere.
so to avoid winter stuff like the flu, stay in the summer year round. head WAY south in October or so and come back WAY north in april or so.!
