Onan Generator - No output

I am on the road from California to Florida. Yesterday, i noticed my MiFi was not working and determined that here was no electric from my generator. It was running but no output.

i did blow a circuit breaker on the 50 AMP circuit when I was plugged in to shore power the night before but generator was not running.

I checked the generator line output circuit breaker (reset it just for certainty).

Reset the invertor circuit breaker and investor one and two.

RV works wonderful on 50 AMP shore power, but nothing when generator running going down the road.

Help - wife upset that she can't have her microwave hot dog for lunch!

  • I'd bet that the automatic transfer switch isn't engaging. It's a big relay box, which should be the first thing in-line on the output of the generator.

Generator power and shower power go to it before entering the AC electrical panel.

If you can find it, it's typically a gray, black or brown box, I'd tap on the box like you are knocking on a door, hard.
Often time that will free up the contacts and make it work again.
  • Have you checked with a meter and seen that your generator is producing power? If so it could be the ATS contacts welded closed when something tripped that 50A breaker. If you have an EMS is it set correctly?
