Onan Propane Generator not starting.

It's a pain to service since it needs to be dropped to do that, I think it needs at least one new spark plug, if I change that and can get it to start but it hasn't been serviced in some time, how long can I count on it going for hours wise?
Thanks
  • Well problem solved, I forgot to open the second liquid valve, I changed the plugs, the points were bad in them, anyhow as soon as I opened the liquid valve it started up. Thanks for all the help.

I got a better look at the front of the unit and it's actually,
    a Onan Marquis 6500 LP
    Serial D933020948

    Hope this helps
    Thanks
  • Ok I will see if I can get the serial #, not sure about points, it does look like it has a coil,if that helps, the front plug can changed with no problem, it's the in the back that's tough to get to, is some kind of tool that might fit in horizontally without having to drop the unit? I seem to remember some kind of long ratchet for challenges like that.
  • You need to change both plugs.Since it is a low hour unit. I would check the fuel supply system. There was a problem a few years back. With oil from the propane tanks getting into the system gumming everything up.

  • Ok I get it, not enough info, will look for the manual and specs and check the meter and post back
    Thanks
  • You can count on it to run until it quits.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but there's not enough information in your question to even begin to hazard a Scientific Wild-A**ed Guess. What model, how old, how many hours on the ticker, when was it last run and for how long, when was the oil last changed, and maybe a SWAG could be offered.

    But no guarantees.

Oh, wait, you asked " … how long can I COUNT on it to run …. " On that basis, you can't.
