Oozing putty tape?

Not sure where to post this so thought I'd start here. A good friend just brought his year old toy hauler to wash it.

We noticed putty oozing from around ALL the windows, I would imagine this is not butyl tape and not normal? I am thinking all the windows are compromised? Posting here for him and wondering what his next course of action should be. This is a Forest River product and has had a multitude of issues now to include delamination on the ramp/door.

Thanks for any advice I can pass along to him.
  • Putty oozing isn't unusual at all. Use a plastic putty knife to remove the excess.

It's normal and happens over time. I've used a razor knife to "cut" the excess away from the window frame using the frame as a guide. Then simply wipe it off.
  • A plastic disposable putty knife works great and does not mark the wall.
  • Thanks for the quick replies, He's so relieved it isn't another issue!!!
  • An old credit card works well also for scraping the putty.
  • Messed way my front window last winter. Now that it is getting warm some putty tape is beginning to ooze out. I'm waiting till end of summer before I scrape of excess and give screws a little tightening.
