- Joe_WayExplorerPull off the knob and look down the control shaft to see if there is a screw slot. If so, turn the screw half a turn and see which way the temperature goes and how much. Adjust accordingly.
Joe - Johno02ExplorerDo you really use one of those ovens?? We thought it was just a place to store pans and such.
- srd1941ExplorerSet at 350 It will go to 300 according to an oven thermometer. Set at 450 for another half hour it got to 375. I then set it to Broil and it reached 500. Dropped it back down to 450 and within a short time it was back to 375. Yes it cycles on and off. Thank you for the suggestions. I will continue to check it out. We do use it but it's always been a problem, I could get biscuits done if I left them in long enough but they never browned.
Stan - DrewEExplorer IIWhen it's set above 350 (and won't get above 300), does the burner cycle on and off, or is it staying lit all the time?
If it's not cycling, maybe there's some blocked orifice or other fault preventing it from getting enough gas or burning properly. It would make sense that it wouldn't get hotter if that's the equilibrium point when the burner is running all the time, no matter what the thermostat is set to.
If it is cycling, Old-Biscuit has excellent advice.
(There is often an adjustment screw on the thermostatic valve to calibrate it should it just be out by a more or less consistent amount. Alternately, one could put a new index mark on the stove at the right spot, or a new label on the control knob. Those obviously don't help the problem of it not getting hot enough.) - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIStandard variance is 25*F
Set for 350*F and temp is OK if between 325*F & 375*F
Temps in oven are sensed by Thermal Bulb held in place by a clip in back of oven
Check that is it NOT touching any surfaces inside oven......walls or even a pan
Also check for kinked capillary tube
May need to replace oven thermostat control valve - Clay_LExplorerI don't know why it doesn't go over 300 degrees. I always had to use an oven thermometer on mine because the dial was so inaccurate but it would go up to at least 400 degrees.
- 352ExplorerHow do you know it is 300 degrees when set @ 350?
