I wonder if the next major breakthrough in electric generation might be a new chemical based process. Consider the huge numbers of chemically generated amp hours that are currently sitting in warehouses and stores worldwide just waiting for us to use them to power our flashlights, remote controls, hearing aids, and various other wireless devices. For example, I have a small box of zinc air button cells sitting here that unpackaged and stacked up would be about the same size as a standard wood pencil that will generate about 15 amp/hours when activated. And they have no need for initial charging, although obviously there's manufacturing and disposal/recycling costs involved. Just food for thought...
