This issue needs more than a passing sentence or two. It's not that the electric heaters are inefficient, it's that using scarce electricity to produce heat is not practical. The electric cars are highly optimized to cover distance with a small amount of power. For some trips, heating the car interior will use up more electricity than driving the wheels will. A fossil fuel car uses a free waste product to heat the car's interior. An electric car has to give up much of its useful range and economic advantage to heat the interior. Real life issues like this seem to be conveniently ignored when the electric car agenda is being promoted. I'm not against electric cars, but I am against all of the inaccurate best-case promotion.
