Hi mena,
You are a member of the PWM controller world. Ask yourself what is the maximum voltage you ever want coming out of the controller.
Since fridge boards (and others) "fry" at 15.4, that is one number to consider.
Your panels are 18 volts?
15.4/18 ~= 15% voltage clipping.
In other words, so long as the wire you intend to use has enough (code) ampacity capacity--it will be large enough.
If you were a member of the MPPT world, then certainly go ahead and use #4.
No matter which "world" you are in, from the controller to the battery is where you want big thick wire.
