I like 2% before the charge controller and 1% or less controller to battery, and I believe batteries do too. I estimated my system at about 1.5% voltage drop combiner to controller and about 0.5% voltage drop controller to batteries. And yes, I guess I had money to burn. But I like that the MPPT controller can see 17.5 volts and output 30+ amps, and if I add three more panels the wiring is ready for them.
