First, you shouldn't jump to conclusions.
How do you KNOW that, have you measured it ?
What device does that valve serve ??

There probably is a 12 V valve so that the device can operate "automatically" and you wouldn't want to defeat it.

The device is on the propane tank so it serves everything in the rv, but in order to use the propane you have to turn on the 12 volt valve, yes I have measured the drain. I would like to keep the valve open without using any 12 volts & manually turn it off when I am home. If I had one of those on my camper, I'd be throwing it away and reconnect to a standard manual hose and pressure regulator.

I've never seen one of these in service before, but could you simply remove it from the line and plug your hose directly into the tank and that way you would not have it dependent upon a battery? In other words, go back to the manual old fashioned way?

I agree & will do that unless someone knows an easy way to keep this valve open.

This is a big issue with cruising sailboats that must have the solenoid. For those who do not understand this issue, when energized the solenoid gets so warm it is impossible to grasp it tightly without yelling.

Between stove, hot water heater, refrigerator, and space heating how is a person supposed to manage?

Sailboats are minus, refrigerator and space heating duty (they use diesel). So the issue is solely to energize and de-energize with a touch button latching relay.

With an RV that has no bilge to fill with LPG gas and explode the necessity of the solenoid becomes unclear. Think about it...

That is a HIGH PRESSURE cut off valve and are used on Motorhomes that the LP tank system is NOT easily accessable without crawling under the RV which may be impossible on some Motorhomes. You should also have a remote fill nozzle with a hose going to the tank. THIS IS A SAFETY DEVICE AND MAY NOT BE ALTERED BY ANYBODY BUT YOU. You can do what you want, but YOU will be responsible if there is a leak and you cannot get access to shut the LP tank OFF. Please post Year and brand/model of your Motorhome. In Texas, IF you modified that LP tank, NOBODY in Texas could legally fill your tank. Doug

My first bus was LPG and plumbed to the accessible high pressure shutoff valve with schedule 80 pipe.The shutoff valve was about 10' distant from the tank and there were 2 83 gallon motor fuel tanks. But shutoff valves outside the door one and a half feet aft. Magnetic closure flap. Quicksilver has the same stainless 300 PSI ball valve but on a 200 lb tank. I will not use any hose but liquid motorfuel hose and Aeroquip flex lines to the appliances, even the seldom used Olympian 8000.

But regardless if the tank shutoffs are inaccessible the solenoid has to stay. I asssssssssumed high end motor coach manufacturers had brains. I guess I was wrong.

Good point, it does have a remote fill & I can reach the manual shut off under the rv. I have a 2014 leisure van unity.

Some have the solenoid connected to the LP detector in the rig. When the detector senses the presence of LP or carbon monoxide it shuts off the propane.

We sell and Service Leisure. They are not really designed to be boondocked or off 120 power. Almost ALL B type Mercedes/Dodge type converted vans have your type system. Doug
