The entire design philosophy of VRB is wildly different than of traditional flooded batteries. It gets way too nerdy to discuss here. Spiral batteries cut their teeth bouncing over off-road races like the Baja Mil. In WW II many Pacific Fleet submarines had to report back to base after a severe depth charging. Most of their battery plates and separators lay in the sediment chamber. Exide was a happy camper.
But too many times I see folks pronounce a decent quality VRB as being "superior" in all ways to their flooded battery that it replaced. I'll guarantee a decent VRB will outshine a minimalist quality flooded battery any day of the week.
