We do almost the same thing here at home when local disasters hits us...
We run a couple of extension cords from the trailer inside the house. We have a working wood burning fire place and can run our portable grill for cooking...
The trailer battery bank INVERTER keeps us in home entertainment, a few lights on in the house, run the fridge a couple hours a day, run the fireplace fan, keeps my radio/computer room UPS units up and charged.
Then I run my 2KW Generator at least three hours during the day re-charge my battery bank back up to its 90% charge state each day.
The problem I have run into was running out of gasoline for the generator and no where to get any... My generator gasoline stash gets used up filling up the lawn mowers most of the time. Most of the stations around here here don't have emergency power so when we was off line so was they.
It worked out pretty good having the trailer sitting next to the house.
We was lit up outside in the patio and friends wandered thru all day and early evening. Watched some OTA HDTV with us sitting outside in the patio...
We also loaded up our 2KW generator and went to a few of the elderly living in the neighborhood and ran their fridge a couple of hours each day.
Survived 14 days without power a couple of years ago...
