I just climbed back inside and remeasured my empty battery compartment height, and with the padding removed from its floor, I have 10 3/16" height to work with.
We all know battery rebranding occurs a lot in Car jar application. If Crown knows their group 31 105A/h marine battery is being relabelled and resold as a 130 A/h Deep cycle battery. Well then I no longer will give them any business. We'll see if the regional manager every decides to return my call, but I fear I revealed too many concerns in my voicemail and there might perhaps be a whole bunch of butt covering going on behind the scenes.
I mean what were the chances somebody would actually do a capacity test and not just believe what the salesman told them like a good lemming?
I guess there is the possibility that the distributor actually thinks they are receiving the 130 A/h battery too.
Either way, there is some incredible dishonesty going on here. Had I known I was being offered a 105 A/h marine battery, well No way would I pay that much for it. I'd goto wally world and pay ~1/3rd less and probably get the same cycle life with a Mexican made johnson controls.
So back to my original capacity concerns and being able to meet a minimum bulk charge rate for longevity. I'm now pretty sure my last set which lasted ~20 months were just marine batteries.
But perhaps Marine batteries need even higher bulk currents to be happy since they have more CCA too.
I have no issues dropping to the group 27 US Battery at 105 AH. The 105 AH does not bother me as much as being told I am buying a 130 AH deep cycle battery and receiving a 105 AH marine battery with a fancy sticker claiming ultimate cycle duty on it. This infuriates me.
My Northstar AGM claims only 90 amp hours. I am going to likely pull 55 to 60 AH from it tonight. We'll see how it starts my engine in the morning.
Right now is is showing 12.45 volts with 10 A/h removed under a 7.4 amp load.
