Pex repair fittings

I have a 2005 Komfort 5th wheel and need to replace the kitchen faucet. Is the red and blue pex tubing in the trailer the same size as standard pex. The new faucet has 3/8 compression inlet tubing already installed as part of the unit. My old one had 3/4"np threads. I want to use the shark bite shutoff fitting and cut the factory red and blue pex. Just wanted to make sure the shark bite fitting work on the factory pex.
Thanks in advance

  • The PEX pipe should
have the size printed on it but probably on the side facing away from you LOL. I'd guess it's 1\2".
  • Pex comes in 100 psi rating and 160 psi rating and is printed on the exterior. The red and blue PEX that an RV manufacturer uses is 100 psi and PEX in a house is 160 psi, but there is 160 psi red & blue PEX. I bought some red & blue PEX at an RV dealer that was 160 psi.

The 100 psi PEX has a slightly smaller diameter. I am not comfortable using a sharkbite because of this but many use sharkbite (or equiv.) fittings with no issues. I always use copper crimp rings but I have a crimper (bought on ebay for cheap years ago). It's very important to make sure the PEX cuts are clean/square.

FWIW, Five different ways to connect PEX

When buying PEX, try and get it in straight lengths. The coiled stuff is a PITA to use in an RV because it has a memory and will not stay straightened no matter how hard you try.
  • Thanks, I will go ahead with the repair. I appreciate the replies
  • X3 on the shark bite fittings.

I used them to make a bi-pass on my water filter housing. Saves on antifreeze when winterizing.
  • If it's the last PEX pipe you'll be repairing, the sharkbite fittings are fine, although pricey. If you think you'll be doing a few more than those it might be worthwhile to buy a crimp tool such as
    PEX crimp tool

I've used this one for about 100 fittings and have not had one leak yet. Easy to remove the clamps, too, and it'll do various size clamps..
  • I have a Komfort also and have used the standard shark-bite fittings on the PEX in our trailer....repaired a leaking toilet supply.
