I hate the SHUNT TYPE as you end up with a LIVE CABLE routed to the meter panel to deal with. If it shorts to frame ground you gots fireworks haha...
CLAMP-ON or Transformer type are better where the cables going to meter movement are low current type. My install uses the transformer 'DONUT' type and I have each leg feeding my DC CURRENT PANEL meter fused with 1AMP IN-LINE fuses.
