Stow, stow, stow your panels... I never "stowed" a solar panel in my life but I'm still tired of thinking of you stowing, stowing and stowing. A reduced charge in low light.
On arrival in that field it takes about 20 minutes to set up the solar. It stays there. On leaving a month or whatever later, we "stow" it and go home. Others set theirs out on chairs or prop them up somehow, same thing.
OTOH if we were on the road stopping at different places every few days, that would be PITA. In that case, I would go with the roof mounting. But also doing that, it is more likely to be with full hook-ups anyway. It is all situational what works best.
