Does anyone have much experience with portable solar? I find that occasionally we end up in shaded campsites affecting our roof top solar, but the sun is not far away. Do most anything to stay away ...

been using portable panels for many years now. We often camp with the trailer under trees and sun a ways away.
Advantages of portable
1) can be 100ft or more away from trailer to get into sun
2) can be easily tilted to get optimum angle
3) can be positioned due south easy
Disadvantages
1) don't charge when driving
2) can grow legs
3) take time to set up
4) need a place to store them.
Depends on what is important to you.
