Hardly. do people with roof systems spend time "aiming them" NO.
if you lay them flat on the ground, you'll get just as much output as if they were on the roof. easy peasy. Just remember solar side UP.
If you point them south and align them reasonably close to being optimum at noon celestrial time, you'll be in a position to have more solar collection than a equal flat roof system. Depending on time of year a latitude, even aiming them may not buy much improvement.
That's what we do, works great, and the places we camp I'm not worried about them growing legs, so don't bother moving them when we leave for a while or the day.
